What is The Main Culprit of Health Sciences

From the beginning of the century to the end of an era, numerous evolution, modification, and manipulation occur in the human system; where some of the impacts negatively and some of them positively. However, the question remains that what forces changed the aspect of living evolution?? If we focus on other strengths and points, in the diseased state, a single question is still prevailing in the society? Here, a maximum of us are still unknown or we still have not so broad knowledge about the subject.

On World Health Day, we are all conscious about the Covid-19, but, what lead to the emergence of such a massive pandemic. Also, we grossly found that today the rate of metabolic disorders such as Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), Diabetes Mellitus, and others are increasing, so what led to the generation of such diseases??

Based on this scenario, an interdisciplinary round table conference was organized at Humanity, Institute for Advanced Medical & Cultural Research, Kolkata at their head office on the occasion of World Health Day with the theme of Phoenix 2021 on 08th April 2021. Phoenix is a Greek mythological bird that re-appears from its burnt ashes lighting up the energy of wisdom and truth to reborn in this world of the living. The conference and the so-called mirage of positive health were similar to the theme of their program. In the discussion, several peoples from several backgrounds appeared to speak up and find out the solution to these major health issues in life. Dr Sinchan Das, Secretary of Humanity, Institute for Advanced Medical & Cultural Research chaired the complete conference with his opening words to discuss the main culprit of today’s health condition. Scholars and students of HIAMCR, Students from Rabindranath Tagore International Institute for Cardiac Sciences and College of Paramedical and Allied Health Sciences, West Bengal, and staff of Vivekanand Institute for Postgraduate Medical Sciences gathered together on identifying the issues in detail.

At the starting of the discussion, several factors appeared such as lifestyle that was broadly derived in two ways acquired and congenital, classification of the human system into dimension and subjects such as physical health, mental health, social health and others. Moreover, physical health is the major factor that is being highly stressed upon and even in the current scenario, it is also being classified into several other aspects such as Cardiology, Endocrinology and many more. However, on further discussion, everyone kept their view on the parameters and factors of culprits of the Health Sciences. In the end, Dr. Sinchan Das concluded that “the culprit of Health Sciences is not one but a collection of several parameters that affect the human living at every instance”. It can be divided into physical, environmental, psychological and genetic parameters. Physical parameter focuses on the technological advancement, acquired lifestyle, removal of peripheral physical symptoms or in some cases signs, generalized health protocol, and many more. The growing pollution, derangement of circadian rhythm, destruction of natural habitats, concentration towards niche and others are considered under environmental parameters. The psychological parameters are based on the clash of the unconscious and conscious mind that leads to vindictism, ignorance, resistance, arrogance and violence. All the congenital lifestyle, modification and manipulation of genes and genetic factors are classified under the generic parameter.

Moreover, The second round of the conference focused on the concept of positive health. As per KS Park (Preventive and Social Medicine), positive health is based on the functional balance between the physical, mental, and social well-being that focuses on quality of life, the quantity of life and others. The concept of quality of life is then further defined based on the income and expenditure of a person. However, lifestyle compromisation emerges as one of the great factor here. Dr. Sinchan Das gave an example of a person that is daily earning 5L INR and consumes alcohol of 2L INR. So, what sort of quality lifestyle is this. The conference took a new route identifying the exact scenario of today’s pandemic situation, where the generalised protocol of wearing masks has made numerous health issues in living scenario. On introducing this point, Dr. Sinchan Das focused on the ACE-2 and TMPRSS-2 genes that are the major gateway for the infection of Covid-19. Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme-2 is a new gene that was discovered in the year 2009 that is present in people that are either having hypertension or have a family history of such disease. TMPRSS-2 is Transmembrane protease, serine 2 is an enzyme that is related to androgenic factors such as prostatomegaly in males. Thus, in major point, it can be said that oxidative stress is the major factor for the infection.

As the above image suggests, that the growth of oxidative stress is one of the important factors for the generation of Covid-19, then what is the actual need for wearing a mask? In various places in a closed chamber, people are focusing on wearing masks, to prevent themselves. But, what is the point of such a generalised measure? In the conference, a student from RTIICS said that it is only important for the safety of others. And this is the fact that more than making us safe, this mask is important for the safety of others.

Similarly, the drug-dependent pathology and drug dependent living cannot be said to be as quality living. At the end of the complete conference, everyone took an oath to redesign their lifestyle, not on the parameters of income-expenditure but to maintain the lifestyle without drugs, medicines and negative thoughts. The said conference concluded with the oath to “Think Healthy, Behave Healthy Live Healthy, & Make Healthy”…..
